Week 24 February 11th - 15th Letter Dd Valentine's Day

February 8, 2019

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Thank you Rodrigo for the delicious French toast!!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner. We will celebrate it on Thursday
February 14th.
Please send in a decorated shoe box by Tuesday February 12th. This will be your child's "mailbox".
The students can receive their Valentine Treats and store them in there.
We have 22 students in Kindergarten. If you are planning to send treats in please make sure there is enough for every student.
As you all know  our little ones love helping out. Here at Discovery School we pride ourselves in doing just that.  Early Childhood is pleased to announce our community service project. CEPUDO is a wonderful organization that helps out different areas in our community. One of those areas is lending a helping hand to newborn babies  and moms born in Hospital Materno Infantil. This project ( which is TOP SECRET for the students at the moment ) has several steps.
We need your help in order to make this a successful learning experience for our students. The first step is where you the parents come in, please send in 100 Lempiras per child by next Friday February 15th.
This money will be used to purchase a tote bag/ diaper bag with the Discovery School logo on it.
More information about our project will follow in the weeks to come.

This week we are going to be working

with the letter Dd. The vocabulary that

we are going to be focusing on is:

desert, dictionary, dominoes, dig, dance, daisy, dolphin, donkey, dice, doctor, drum, deer, doll, desk, and dinosaur.

If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, please send them in. We will send them home on Friday.

Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

Dozens of doughnuts have disappeared from Dave's Diner and Detective Dog is on the trail!

In a few simple lines of verse on each spread, fathers and mothers are ready to put their youngsters to bed. But in this book, the youngsters are a wide variety of dinosaurs. And how do dinosaurs say good night?

IDinosaurs of all shapes and sizes dance, prance, and play in this lively tale about the many ways one can express unconditional love.

The sight words that we are going to be introducing this week are:  she, go, so, am, do,what
Please take 15 minutes every day to practice them at home with your child. It is very important for all of them to recognize all the sight words we have covered in class so far. Once they can recognize sight words, it is going to be a lot easier for them to read books. The following link is a nice and fun game to practice these words.

We are also working on reading CVC words . CVC words are made up of three letters a consonant , vowel and a consonant. These words are a great way to help your learn to read. They become aware that words are a group of sounds put together. Your child may begin to sound out every word they come across even the sight words! Remind your child that English is a "funny " language with lots of "rules" and some words cannot be sounded out.

In Math, we  will be working on  different addition strategies. This week we will continue using a number line to add we will also as well as introducing  algebraic equations. We will also continue our  unit on Measurement. We will review Short and Long and introduce Light and Heavy. This week our main focus will be weight. We will be using scales to compare objects weight.
