week of Feb 12th 16th - Letter Dd

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Thank you Gina Minou for our delicious hot dogs and French Fries!!

Please send in a shoe box. We will be making Valentine Mailboxes. Our class will celebrate Valentines on Tuesday February 14th. Please send in a valentine for every student.

This week we are going to be working with the letter Dd. The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is:
dessert, dictionary, dominoes, dig, dance, daisy, dolphin, donkey, dice, doctor, drum, deer, doll, desk, and dinosaur.
If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, please send them in. We will send them home on Friday.

Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

Dozens of doughnuts have disappeared from Dave's Diner and Detective Dog is on the trail!

In a few simple lines of verse on each spread, fathers and mothers are ready to put their youngsters to bed. But in this book, the youngsters are a wide variety of dinosaurs. And how do dinosaurs say good night?

In this amusing tale for preschoolers from the Caldecott Medal-winning author of Owl Moon, dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes dance, prance, and play in this lively tale about the many ways one can express unconditional love.
How do dinosaurs say I love you? Little dinosaurs sometimes misbehave or make a mess, but no matter what they do, their mamas and papas always love them. With warmth and irresistible humor, award winners Jane Yolen and Mark Teague present readers with a familiar range of naughty childhood antics followed by dinosaur-sized kisses, hugs, and those three precious words that can never be said too often: I Love You!

The sight words that we are going to be introducing this week are:  she, go, so, am, do
Please take 15 minutes every day to practice them at home with your child. It is very important for all of them to recognize all the sight words we have covered in class so far. Once they can recognize sight words, it is going to be a lot easier for them to read books. The following link is a nice and fun game to practice these words.

The children are having an extremely great time learning about all different kinds of animals. This week our main focus will be learning about REPTILES!!! We are going to be discussing their characteristics, how they are born, and which animal belong to this group. We are going to talk about DINOSAURS!!

In Math, we are going to continue working on a unit about Measurement. The children will have fun measuring things around the room using different kinds of items. We will use items from the class such as unifix cubes, links, blocks, etc. You may want to do some measurement activities with your child at home. At this time, they will use non-standard units of measurement and not the rulers that we normally use to measure things. This week our main focus will be weight. We will be using balances!!!

This Wednesday, we will celebrate Valentine´s Day. We will be having snack altogether to celebrate this special day. We will be talking about ways to be nice to each other and we will be discussing Friendship.
