Week of January 15th -19th Letter Nn

January 15, 2018

Dear Parents,
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! Please sign and send back your child's report card envelope. The report card is yours to keep.

This  week we are going to be working with the letter Nn. The vocabulary words that we are going to be focusing on are: nail, necklace, noodles, nest, napkin, nine, newspaper, numbers, nuts, nurse, net, neck, needle, noise, and nose.

If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some stories that we are going to be reading with the children are:

Nate is the nicest newt in the neighborhood. We will find out what happens when he decides to be naughty!!!

It's a rainy afternoon and Granny is snoring on the bed in a cozy room. A child crawls on top of her and dreams. Gradually, the pile increases with a dozing dog, a snoozing cat, a slumbering mouse and finally a wakeful flea who, by biting the mouse, sets off a chain of events which results in a broken pile and even a broken bed.
This is a wonderful little story about two birds who decide that they no longer like their old house and go on a quest to find a new house. However every house they find is either occupied or has hidden traps.

The sight words that we are going to continue working with this week are: but, not like, my, we. Please take 15 minutes every day to practice them at home with your child. It is very important for all of them to recognize all the sight words we have covered in class so far. Once they can recognize sight words it is going to be a lot easier for them to read books. The following link is a nice and fun game to practice these words. http://www.fun4thebrain.com/English/popcornFinal.swf

In Math we will continue counting by 10's and 5's up to 100. We will be creating and interpreting bar graphs, and the concept of Between. We will begin introducing addition.
