Week 7 September 18th - 22nd Letter Ss

Dear Parents,

Enjoy your Independence day and have a  wonderful weekend.

Our "Desayuno Catracho" was a complete success.

Progress reports went home on Wednesday. Please look them over, if you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me. Do not forget to sign them and send them back next Monday.
Kindergarten will begin  MAP tests this week. We will have 3 testing sessions this week. Please make sure your child gets a good nights sleep and has  a nutritious breakfast.

MAP = Measures of Academic Progress

We invite you to visit www.nwea.org so you can have more information about what MAP is all about!

This coming week we will be working with the letter Ss. The vocabulary we are going to be focusing on and discussing is the following: sand, salad, sunflower, strawberries, straw, spoon, sushi, snake, sky, snail, snowman, spider, soap, spaghetti, and stapler,.
If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

This week we will be learning about spiders. We will be discussing the difference between a fact and an opinion.
We are going to talk about spiders. Some of the ones we will be discussing are that Spiders come in many sizes and colors. Spiders hatch from eggs. Spiders are NOT insects like many people think… and much more!!!!

Some of the stories we will be reading this week are:

A clever young man tricks an old woman into believing that soup can be made from a stone. As the pot of water boils with the stone in it, he urges her to add more and more ingredients until the soup is a feast "fit for a king".

What happens when Sammy, the adventurous seal, leaves the zoo for the day? He goes to the city, finds a school full of kids and new things to do -- and he even learns to read!
Dance a jig with a silly pig. Play leapfrog with a silly dog. And that’s just the beginning of all the fun! Come along and join Silly Sally and her outrageous friends as they parade into town in a most unusual way.
