Week of March 20th- March 24th Letter Hh

Dear Parents,
I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend.

Due to last weeks activities and short school week KINDER ZOO has been moved to  Thursday March 23rd. Please send in your childs 3-D model on Tuesday. This way we can set up and practice with the students

Your child needs to a create a 3D model of his/ her  animal and have it ready to display it in our room .This is to be done at home. We will research facts about the animals here at school. Your child will practice these facts at home.
On March 23rd children from other grades, teachers, and parents are invited to our presentation.
Your child can come dressed as a scientist, zoo keeper, or even the animal represented!!! Please be creative, help your child come up with the ideas. This is a fun family project!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS so you can join the fun!!!

This week we are going to be introducing the letter Hh. The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is the following: hamburger, hammer, hanger, hospital, honey, hippopotamus, hose, hopscotch, helmet, helicopter, hive, hair, hay, hot dog, and hula hoops. We would like for you to know that we will continue with this letter the week we come back from our Easter Break.
If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.
Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

Where is Baby Hippo hiding? We will help his mother find him in this hilarious hide-and-seek story that teaches the letter H.

One day Hermit Crab discovers that he has outgrown his shell. He is frightened and moves into another shell but thinks that it looks too plain. So, each month he finds a new friend to live with him. Eventually, Hermit Crab outgrows his shell and must find an even bigger shell to make his home. He is reluctant to leave his new friends but finally does, and a little hermit crab, who promises to be good to Hermit Crab’s friends, moves into the shell. Hermit Crab finds a bigger shell in which to reside, but this time he isn’t afraid. He knows that he can make new friends.

The silly chicken thinks that the sky is falling in. Well, that is not the true story. No, that is a misrepresentation put about by foxes. This is the true story, and proves what we always knew in our hearts - chickens are heroes!

Our new sight words for this week are: me, me, love, no, from, boy. Please practice these words at home with your child.
It is important for students to learn sight words in order to help them become fluent readers. Remember that sight words are words students are able to read upon “sight” without having to sound them out. They help facilitate reading comprehension giving students a better opportunity to understand other words in context as they read.

This week we will be studying fractions. Whole, Half 1/2 , Halves, and Fourths 1/4. We will be doing a variety of activities in order to gain understanding about this concept.

In Social Studies we will begin our Map Unit. We will be discussing map features and how maps can help us. We will also learn how to read maps.
If you have any maps you would like to share with the class Please send them in, we will return them when we are finished with our Map unit.
