WEEK OF DECEMBER 9-13

Dear Parents,
This week we are going to be working with the letter Nn. The vocabulary words that we are going to be focusing on are: nail, necklace, noodles, nest, napkin, night, newspaper, nobody, nuts, nurse, net, neck, needle, noise, and note.
If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some stories that we are going to be reading with the children are:

Nate is the nicest newt in the neighborhood. We will find out what happens when he decides to be naughty!!!

It's a rainy afternoon and Granny is snoring on the bed in a cozy room. A child crawls on top of her and dreams. Gradually, the pile increases with a dozing dog, a snoozing cat, a slumbering mouse and finally a wakeful flea who, by biting the mouse, sets off a chain of events which results in a broken pile and even a broken bed.

This is a wonderful little story about two birds who decide that they no longer like their old house and go on a quest to find a new house. However every house they find is either occupied or has hidden traps.

The sight words that we are going to continue working with this week are: an, look, up, can, said. Please take 15 minutes every day to practice them at home with your child. It is very important for all of them to recognize all the sight words we have covered in class so far. Once they can recognize sight words it is going to be a lot easier for them to read books.

In Math, we are going to be doing a lot of activities with numbers from 0-30. The children will be practicing writing these numbers in a variety of ways. At this point, they should be able to recognize all these numbers. You may want to practice with them counting by ones, by fives, by tens and writing these numbers for you. We will be emphasizing in the correct way to write the numbers.

In Science, we are going to be talking about different types of weather. We will be discussing what kind of weather we are having in Honduras right now, and we will be able to talk about weather in other parts of the world. We will be discussing what type of clothing we should wear for each kind of weather. Also, we will connect the weather with the four seasons of the year.

The children in charge of donating the materials for Kindergarten Kafe this week are Jay Ben-Nassar and Ellyn Jenks. Thank you in advance!!!

We will be having Discovery School Songfest this Friday, December 13th at 1:30 p.m. Parents are invited to join the children for lunch on this day. The children should be wearing any type of clothing with Christmas colors. If you have a Santa hat, Reindeer antlers, jingle bells, or any other item related to Christmas, please have your child wear it for Songfest.

The Christmas Committee has decided that on Monday, December 16th they will be donating lunch for the children. You only need to pack a snack for your child on this day. They will also be hiring Santa to come and take pictures with the children in the classroom. Thank you for your support!!
