Dear Parents,
This week
we are going to study the letter Rr. The vocabulary that we will be focusing on
with this letter is the following: radio, rooster, rocket, robot, rose,
rake, ribbon, rope, rug, ruler, rhinoceros, rice, raisins, restaurant, rainbow.
If you
have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your
child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table
and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things
from home.
Some of
the stories we will be reading during this week are:
The most beautiful fish in the ocean is asked to
share one of his shining scales with a little blue fish, and to which he
refuses. All the other fish in the sea leave him alone, and he wondered why. He
goes to the wise octopus for advice, and she tells him to give away his scales.
Rainbow Fish reluctantly does so, except for one. In the end, he is less
beautiful then he was before, but he has new friends and is now the happiest
fish in the sea.
The Runaway Bunny tells the story about a little
bunny that wanted to run away but his mom told him that she's going to run
after him. So whenever the bunny wants to go his mom is going to follow him.
Then the little bunny decided to stay home and be with his mom.
A mother rabbit takes her five babies out of the
nest for the first time. They all go out to nibble clover and meet the other
creatures. When it rains, they hop back under the bushes and wait out the
storm.
The sight words we are going to be working on this
week are: or, one, had, by, can. Please take some time
to practice daily these words with your child. It is very important for them to
recognize all the sight words.
In our Phonemic Awareness we are going to continue working with
Alliteration activities with the kids. What is alliteration? Alliteration is
the use of the same consonant sounds in words that are near each other. It is
the sound, not the letter that is important: therefore ‘candy’ and ‘Cindy’ do
not alliterate, but ‘cool’ and ‘kids’ do. It is a great exercise to help our
kids learn phonetic alphabet awareness and develop concentration and memory
skills. For example:
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers..
Last week we started studying about nouns. Ask your
child the meaning of this word and you will be surprised!
In Math we are going to work with number 16
and with the concepts of top, middle, bottom. The children will make sets with
this number and sequence numbers from 0 to 16.
On Friday, November 6th, we will have a field trip. We have been invited to go to a Dinosaur exhibit at CityMall. On this day, please make sure your child wears their Discovery School shirt if they have one. We will send the permission forms this week. The field will cost 130 lempiras, so please send us the money with the permission form. Parents are also welcome to come. If you decide to do so, you will need to provide your own transportation and buy the ticket for the entrance at the mall.
The children in charge for donating the ingredients for Kinder Kafe this week are:
Valeria Gough and Vanessa Sovalbarro.
Thanks in advance!
