WEEK OF NOVEMBER 9-13, 2015

This week we are going to be working with the letter Ll. The vocabulary words that we are going to be focusing on are the following: lollipop, lizard, lemon, light bulb, ladder, lamb, lips, lobster, library, lamp, lightning, lettuce, ladybug, lid, and log.
Some of the stories we are going to be reading this week are:

Lulu the Lamb doesn’t know when to stop laughing until Lion teaches her a lesson.

This story explores the concepts of time, size and manners through the exploits of one very grouchy ladybug. When it refuses to share aphids with another ladybug, the grouchy insect flies off to pick a fight an hour with a succession of ever-larger animals.

In Math, we are going to be introducing number 17. The children will make sets with this number. We are also going to be constructing pictographs. Each child will have the chance to create their own graph.
We will continue to work with the sight words introduced last week: by, can, or, one, had. Click on the following link to find a great game you may want to try with your child at home.
In our phonemic awareness we are going to start studying Ending Consonants. By this, we mean the ending consonant they hear in words such as bat, dog, paper, and pencil. We are NOT focusing on ending sounds like house, mice, and candle.

In Science we will begin a unit about Food. We are going to be discussing healthy and unhealthy snacks. We are also going to introduce them the Food Pyramid and talk about each type of food. Children will get the chance to name food that is eaten during the breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you have any books or posters, or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

We would like to give a big Thank You to Valeria Gough and Vanessa Sovalbarro for donating the ingredients last week. The children enjoyed making a rainbow out of froot loops, marshmallows and whipped cream. The children in charge for donating the ingredients for Kindergarten Kafe this Friday are Camilla Matamoros and Giulliana Florentino. Thanks in advance.

HEALTH FAIR: Next Friday, November 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. we will have the Optica Matamoros and Dra. Sandra Noguera doing visual and dental screening for our Early Childhood students. Permission slips allowing this screening to be done will be sent home this week.
