Thank you all for coming in last
Friday for the student led conferences. It is wonderful to work with such a
dedicated group of parents and students. This week we will be doing a variety
of counting and language activities with pumpkins, spiders, ghosts, scarecrows,
etc.
This week we are going to
be working with the letter Cc. The vocabulary words we are going to be focusing
on are: cage, cucumber, camel, camera, candle, cap, carrots, clock,
clown, cup, comb, corn, cafeteria, coins, and cousins.
In
our Phonemic Awareness we are going to be doing Alliteration activities with
the kids. What is alliteration? Alliteration is the use of the same consonant
sounds in words that are near each other. It is the sound, not the letter that
is important: therefore ‘candy’ and ‘Cindy’ do not alliterate, but ‘cool’ and
‘kids’ do. It is a great exercise to help our kids learn phonetic alphabet
awareness and develop concentration and memory skills. For example:
Peter
Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
Sally
swam silently in the sea.
The
children will get the chance to do their own alliteration using their name!!!
Sight
Words: These sight words were
introduced last week and we will be working on them this week as well. Please
practice these words at home with your child. be, this, at, see, have.
In
Math, we are going to be working with number 15 and continue our study with
Ordinal Numbers up to tenth.
In Science we are going to be talking about The Five Senses! We will be
reading the book My Five
Senses by Aliki. If you have
any book that talks about our senses, please let us borrow them from you!
A big THANK YOU goes to Mrs. Wendy
Willemsen (mom of Sofia Estrada) and to Mrs. Eva Molina (mom of Giulliana
Florentino) for each bringing a pumpkin to the class. We will carve the
pumpkins and will make a jack-o-lantern out of them.
On
Thursday, October 29th we are celebrating Book Character Day.
Your child can come to school with a costume that they can wear all day long.
Please avoid costumes that will make it difficult for your child to run, that
will make them sweat a lot or that it can make it hard for them to go to the
bathroom. If you wish you can send extra clothes in their backpack for them to
change whenever they want to. We are going to go trick-or-treating around the
school. Thank you to all of you parents, for contributing with a bag of goodies
and Lps. 35 to buy the baskets for the children. If you have not done so, we
would appreciate if you can send this bag of goodies and the money by Tuesday
since we need to divide them among the classes the children will be visiting.
Also, we would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Mara Vallecillo (mom of
Mara Young) for volunteering in sending in cupcakes and “mummies” made out of cheese
sticks. Therefore, on this day you do NOT need to send a SNACK with your child
to school. You just need to send LUNCH for them.
On Friday, October 30th we are celebrating UN Day. For this
reason, your child does not need to bring snack on this day. We would also like
to remind you that there is an early dismissal on this day. Children are
dismissed from school at 11:45 a.m.
A
FRIENDLY TIP: Read with fun in your
voice.
Read
to your child with humor and expression. Use different voices for different
characters. Ham it up!
