WEEK OF FEBRUARY 10-14

This week we are going to be working with the letter Vv. The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is the following: valentine, vulture, vest, volcano violet, violin, van, veterinarian, vacuum,
If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.
Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

We are going to find out what happens when Victor Viper gives his pal Vera a valentine in this very funny tale that teaches the letter V.

When his best friend Peter moves away, Robert has no one to play with, no one to fight with, and no fun at all. Then he meets Will -- and finds he's not the only one who needs a new best friend.

It's April, and Frog is looking forward to a whole year of happy times with his best friend, Toad. If only Toad would agree to wake up from his long winter nap! In the first of five short stories, clever Frog finds a way to rouse his sleepy friend.

In Math we will be introducing Solid Figures. We will be looking around the classroom for these types of shapes and we will be discussing objects in our environment that can represent each shape. PLEASE, if you have any item at home that can be useful to teach this unit, we would greatly appreciate it if you can send them over. You might want to look around your house for a ball, a dice, paper towel tube, etc.

We are also going to start doing a mini unit about Honduran Coins. We will be discussing each one of them and its value. We will be sorting them out by its value. This is also a great opportunity to practice our addition and subtraction skills. We would like to request your help in sending one of each of the different coins with your child to school (in case you have them). If you would like to send in more, they will surely be welcome in our class!

Our Yearbook pictures will be taken on Wednesday, February 12th. K-A will take it at 8:30 a.m. and K-B will take it 11:00 a.m., so we encourage our students to come dressed nicely!

The children are having an extremely great time learning about all different kinds of animals. This week our main focus will be learning about BIRDS!!! We will be discussing their characteristics, and how they are born.

As you all know, this Friday, we celebrate Valentine´s Day. The Valentines Committee has decided to provide lunch for the children. You only need to pack a snack for your child on this day. There will be NO Kinder Kafe this week!

We would like to thank each one of you by sending a mailbox for your child last week. If you have not done so, please do it before this Friday!! We are going to display all these lovely mailboxes on Friday for your child to deliver their valentine cards for their friends. This is a voluntary activity. However, if you decide to participate, the only request that we have is that the students should bring one card or treat to each one of the Kindergarten students. We have a total of 21 students! Clip It! Behavior Chart

Our classroom will use a clip chart to monitor behavior. A clip chart is a great tool that allows students to be rewarded for positive behavior, while discouraging negative behavior.

Each student has a clothespin, or clip, with his or her name on it. Everyone will start on green at the beginning of each day, and clips can be moved up and down throughout the day based on behavior.

The Super Student level is reserved for outstanding behavior. A student who reaches this level will earn a special note home, and a jewel on his/her clip. After five jewels, clips will be retired to the Hall of Fame and a new clip will be given!

Students can move to the Great Job level for continuing to display good behavior. You should be very proud of your child for reaching this level!

Students will move to the Good Choices level for showing that they are making the right behavior decisions! Ending the day on this level is great!

Every student will start the day on the Ready to Learn level. As the day goes on, clips can be moved up and down, based on behavior. This level is a good one to be on!

A student will be moved to the Think About It level as a warning about his/her behavior, and a reminder to follow the rules.

Students who continue to display poor behavior can move down to the Teacher’s Choice level. Here, the teacher can decide what action to take. Loss of recess or center time might be an appropriate choice.

When a student moves to the Parent Contact level, the teacher will notify parents via note or phone call. A visit to the Principal’s office might also be in order. Students on this level may also lose recess time, etc.
