WEEK OF JANUARY 18-22, 2016

This week we are going to be working with the letter Ii. The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is the following: Indian, ink, invitation, instruments, itch, igloo, iguana, insects, and internet
If you happen to have any item at home that begins with this letter, have your child bring it to school so it can be displayed on a special table. Thanks in advance!

Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:
Iggy Iguana thinks ice is nice! We will find out how he uses his imagination to beat the heat!!

This is the story of one very smart little inchworm. As the story begins, he is about to be an addition to a robin's meal as the robin is hungry and the little inch was quite available. But unfortunately for the robin, this was one fast thinking little worm and he convinces the robin that he is a very useful creature. He offers to measure the robin's tail. Of course the robin is quite impressed (he found that his tail was five inches long, which pleased him greatly) so he takes the little worm to the other birds.

The sight words that we are going to introduce this week are: she, go, so, am, do. Please take 15 minutes every day to practice them at home with your child. It is very important for all of them to recognize all the sight words we have covered in class so far. Once they can recognize sight words it is going to be a lot easier for them to read books. The following link is a nice and fun game to practice these words.

We will introduce the concept of subtraction. We will be subtracting from 5. We will also discuss the concept of between. The students are all very excited to start solving problems that involve adding or subtracting.

This week we are starting with a new theme. We will be talking about ANIMALS. We will focus on brainstorming different kinds of animals the kids know, we will talk about their favorite animal and we will be discussing the basic needs of them. If you happen to have any books, posters, toys about animals, we would appreciate it if you would let us borrow them.

Last Friday, the children took the Report Cards home. Please make sure you sign the envelope and send it back to us as soon as possible.

The children in charge of donating the materials for Kindergarten Kafe this week are Mara Young and Sofia Estrada. Thank you in advance!!

It is hard to believe that the 100th day of school is quickly approaching and so it is time for us to start planning the festivities. This exciting day is going to be on Thursday, January 28th. For this, we would like for you to help your child come up with a “100 day of school project.” For this, they need to build up a project with 100 items. They can display their project in any creative way. They can use any item. Please avoid edible items. This project should be in school on Wednesday, JANUARY 27th. These projects will be displayed as a 100th day Museum for other children to come and visit. Some items that you may want to use are pennies, cotton balls, q-tips, dot stickers, legos, popsicle sticks, wiggly eyes, buttons, etc. The following pictures are just examples of what you can come up with:

This year we are thrilled to announce the start of the Wolves Art and Book Club for grades Nursery to 1st grade. It will be packed with creative and enriching activities for the children and will be led by Ms.Rebecca Moya Aguiluz, who is equally excited as us to be part of this new project. Ms. Rebecca loves books, children and Art, and promises the clubs will be rewarding in experience. As you asll know, these areas help children develop mentally, emotionally and socially.

The Wolves clubs will begin on Feb.1st and will take place after school Monday-Thursday, from 3:15-4:15p.m. For which a monthly fee of Lps. 600.00(per club- 8 monthly classes) will be required to cover the Club's expenses. In addition to class materials, we will also be requesting your collaboration in saving certain recycable items which will later become part of the children's artworks. You will receive a list of these items at a future date.
