WEEK OF JANUARY 11-15, 2016

This week we are going to be working with the letter Nn. The vocabulary words that we are going to be focusing on are: nail, necklace, noodles, nest, napkin, nine, newspaper, numbers, nuts, nurse, net, neck, needle, noise, and nose.

If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some stories that we are going to be reading with the children are:

Nate is the nicest newt in the neighborhood. We will find out what happens when he decides to be naughty!!!

It's a rainy afternoon and Granny is snoring on the bed in a cozy room. A child crawls on top of her and dreams. Gradually, the pile increases with a dozing dog, a snoozing cat, a slumbering mouse and finally a wakeful flea who, by biting the mouse, sets off a chain of events which results in a broken pile and even a broken bed.
This is a wonderful little story about two birds who decide that they no longer like their old house and go on a quest to find a new house. However every house they find is either occupied or has hidden traps.

The sight words that we are going to continue working with this week are: an, look, play, said, up. Please take 15 minutes every day to practice them at home with your child. It is very important for all of them to recognize all the sight words we have covered in class so far. Once they can recognize sight words it is going to be a lot easier for them to read books. The following link is a nice and fun game to practice these words. http://www.fun4thebrain.com/English/popcornFinal.swf
In Math we will continue to work with Addition. We are also going to be introducing the concept of AFTER. We are going to work with addition problems to 10 and reading a bar graph.

SECOND QUARTER REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCES – Report Cards for the second quarter will be issued on Friday, January 15th. Conferences for this quarter are on a need basis. If you do not receive a notice from us but would like to meet for a conference, please contact us to set up a time for the afternoon of Friday, January 15th. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m, and conferences will be held from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.
The children in charge of donating the materials for Kindergarten Kafe this week are Valentina Mejia and Lexi Ruta. Thank you in advance!!
It is hard to believe that the 100th day of school is quickly approaching and so it is time for us to start planning the festivities. This exciting day is going to be on Thursday, January 28th. For this, we would like for you to help your child come up with a “100 day of school project.” For this, they need to build up a project with 100 items. They can display their project in any creative way. They can use any item. Please avoid edible items. This project should be in school on Wednesday, JANUARY 27th. These projects will be displayed as a 100th day Museum for other children to come and visit. Some items that you may want to use are pennies, cotton balls, q-tips, dot stickers, legos, popsicle sticks, wiggly eyes, buttons, etc. The following pictures are just examples of what you can come up with:

Children will be graded on their project. We will be using the following rubric:

This month your child(ren) will have the opportunity to purchase books through the international Scholastic Book Clubs. This is an optional activity offered by the school, in case you want to motivate your child to read at home and to increase their own library. With your purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem for more books for the benefit of your children in our school. The due date to purchase the books online is January 25th. The books will arrive to school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase date.
