WEEK OF OCTOBER 5-9, 2015

This is a very short week. We are going to be talking about Christopher Columbus. If you have any story books that you are willing to share with us please send them with your child and we will be reading them in the class. We are going to be watching some videos about him. Also, the children will be able to name the 3 ships Columbus sailed on.

We will continue to reinforce all the concepts that were introduced last week. I would like to remind you to please review ALL the 20 sight words that we have worked with so far. These words are the, to, and, a, I, in, is, you, that, it, he, was, for, on, are, as, with, his, they, of. Next week we will be having an evaluation week. To help you make it fun for your child at home, you may want to play this cool game which is called Sight Word Bowling.

How to Play:
1. Write sight words onto slips of paper or post-it notes and tape onto bowling pins with clear tape. (If you do not have bowling pins, plastic bottles work perfectly for this). Put 4 words on each pin so that there is always a word visible when the pin falls down.
2. Set up pins as you normally would for bowling.
3. Let child throw bowling ball to knock pins down.
4. Before picking bowling again (or setting up the pins for the next round), the child must read each word that is visible on the pins that were knocked down.
5. Repeat as long as child is interested and wants to play.
* You can spice this up by using different things as your bowling ball - sponges, toys.*
Other ways to play - you can easily adapt this to review letters, letter sounds, math facts and more.

We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Wendy Willemsen (mom of Sofia Estrada) for donating to the classroom a beautiful water dispenser (oasis) for the children to have cold  water at all times of the day.
We really appreciate the support you all can give to our class.

We would like to remind you all that because of the October Holidays, we will not have school on Oct. 7th, 8th, and 9th; school will resume on October 12th. We would like to wish all of you a safe and happy long holiday. Enjoy it to the maximum with your child.
