Dear Parents,
This week we are going to continue the fun in our
Kindergarten World. We are going to be working with the letter Bb. The
vocabulary for this letter is the following: branch, bowling, bench,
button, boot, backpack, basket, belt, bicycle, brush, bone, broom, boat,
binoculars, and bell.
If you have any items at home that begin with this
letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class,
we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids
get excited to bring things from home.
Some of
the stories that we are going to be reading are:
Bear
loves to blow bubbles. But when Badger tries to spoil Bear's fun, he blows a
bubble you won't believe!
A big happy frog, a plump purple cat, a handsome
blue horse, and a soft yellow duck-- all parade across the pages of this
delightful book.
Moose, Lion, Zebra, and Sheep take shelter in a
cave on a cold and rainy day, only to realize that a bear is there. The bear
roars loudly and says that he is trying to sleep. Not understanding why the
bear is so cranky, the other animals come up with ways to cheer up the bear.
Moose finds antlers for him, Lion gives him a mane, and Zebra paints on
stripes. Is there anything the four well-meaning friends can do to help the
bear sleep?
This is book is about a little girl who cuts
through the woods on the way into town, even though her mother specifically
warns her not to. She stumbles across a house owned by 3 bears!!
In our Phonemic Awareness this week we will
continue working with beginning sounds. You can help us out at home by naming a
word and your child telling you the first sound he/she hears.
We are going to introduce five new sight words this
week. These will be the last five words for the first quarter. These words
are as, with, his, they and
of. Please practice, practice and practice these words daily
with your child at home. As evaluation week approaches, we would like to
encourage you to practice ALL the 20 sight words the children will be evaluated
on. (the, to, and, a, I, in, is, you, that, it, he, was, for, on,
are). The children will be assessed in these 20 sight words for the
first quarter of their report card.
In Math, we will
work with number 13. The students will practice writing the number, drawing
sets to match the number and sequencing numbers up to 13. We will continue to count
backwards from 10. We are going to work with the concepts big, medium and
small.
Next week we
will be making some cool binoculars with the students. For this, we need your
help. Please send by Wednesday, September 30th 2 empty rolls of
toilet paper. If you have more than 2 we will gladly receive them too.
We will be
wrapping our unit about Honduras and Landforms this week. We have been talking
about valleys, mountains and hills. Ask your child what is the difference
between these two landforms.
We would like to
thank Mara Young and Sakura Kudo for donating the ingredients for Kinder Kafe
last week. The children enjoyed making a delicious chicken sandwich with
cheese. Yummy!! This week there will be NO kinder kafe
since this Friday is a half day. Children will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
This week our students will finish
taking their MAP test on Monday, September 28th at 11:40 a.m. This is only for the
students that were absent or did not finish their test last week.
We want to
remind parents that this Friday is a professional development day for teachers,
and the students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
