This week we are going to be working
with the letter Zz. The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is the
following: zebra, zig-zag, zipper, zoo,
zookeeper,
If you have any items at home that begin with this
letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class,
we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The
kids get excited to bring things from home.
Some of the stories that we will be
reading this week are:
What will it take for Zack to wake up?
We will find out in this zippy tale that teaches the letter Z.
Spot, a polka-dot leopard who can
change colors and even juggle his own spots, tries to convince two children
that he is special enough to be exhibited in the zoo.
This absolutely stunning picture book
is all about Za-za and the effect that the new baby has on a household. When
Za-za, the little zebra gets a baby brother, the usual routines in her life
change radically. Mom returns from hospital, and she's tired, and Za-za is
looked after by Granny. The baby receives all the attention from both her
parents as well as visitors and Za-za is feeling neglected. Everyone is so busy
that there is no time for toys or stories. So how does it all turn out for
Za-za?
We will
continue working with the sight words: me,
get, day, did, and love. We are
now up to 60 sight words!!! Please practice them with your child at home!!!
We are
going to work with Word Families. These are words that have the same kind of
word ending and a changeable first letter. For instance, the "at"
word family would include words like cat, pat, rat, tat, hat, etc. Words in a
family will always rhyme; however, not all rhyming words belong to the same
word family. "Hair" and "care" both rhyme, but come from
different families. You may want to try the following link for an online game
to play with your child.
In Math, we are going to review
addition and subtraction to and from 10. It would be a great help for your
children to practice the following IXL skills:
Addition
I.7 Add two
numbers - sums up to 10
I.8 Addition
sentences - sums up to 10
I.9 Ways to
make a number - sums up to 10
Subtraction

This week
we will be reviewing all the different groups of animals. We will be
classifying animals into their corresponding group.
To wrap
up our unit on Animals, we are hosting our marvelous KINDER ZOO on February
28th. Parents are invited to join the presentations from 8:20 a.m. -9:40 a.m.
After snack we are going to invite students and teachers from other grades.
The children were assigned to an animal. Your
child should create a 3D model about this animal and have it ready to display
it in our room. They should also present facts about this animal and explain
what they have learned about it. We will have a big event on this day in which
children from other grades, teachers, and administrators will be invited. Your
child can come dressed as a scientist, zoo keeper, or even the animal
represented!!! Please be creative, help your child come up with the ideas. This
is a fun family project!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS so you can join the fun!!!
EARLY DISMISSAL WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26 – Please remember that our teachers will have a
Professional Development afternoon this Wednesday. Our students will be
