Week 17 December 3rd -7th Evaluation Week

November 30, 2018

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. The last two weeks of school are going to be busy ones. Please read the blog carefully.

As you know one of the things we teach our students is how to work cooperatively. Our classroom is a community, we need everyone to be an active participant in order to achieve success individually and collectively. For this reason we will be implementing a new aspect to our behavior management system in the classroom.

On Monday, we will review our class expectations and guidelines; what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior inside the classroom.

We will proceed to introduce our "Class Best Behavior Chart"

At the end of each day if the students were collectively able to reach their goal the class gets a sticker. After 5 stickers the class gets a reward (extra recess, play a fun game in the middle of the day), after 10 stickers they will get another reward (similar to the first prize).

We want to show the students that working together is an attainable goal.

In January we will reevaluate our Prize System.

This is Evaluation Week!!!!
We will be covering the following material:

·        Letters: Cc, Oo, Ll, Rr, and, Uu
·        We will be doing different activities to review Syllable counting, beginning and ending sounds, and rhyming words and reading sight word sentences.
·       We are going to be evaluating all 44 sight words we have worked on in class so far:
and, a, are, at, blue, black, brown, be, by, can, eight, four, for, five, green, his, had, has, have, I, it, is, in, on, one, of, or, orange, red, six, see, seven, this, two, they, the, to, that, three, was, with, you, yellow

Please make sure your child
recognizes these words by sight. Practicing at home daily will be very beneficial for your child and helpful for us.

In Math, we will be evaluating all the concepts covered.

  • Numbers 0-18. The Students should be able to recognize these numbers in and out of order. The students need to be able to make sets to match each number and sequence the numbers in the correct order.
  • Top, Middle Bottom
  • What number comes before? What number comes after?
  • Which is more? Which is less?
  • Making tally marks and using a ten frame to represent numbers
  • Graphs
  • Composing and decomposing numbers up to ten.

Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) is an international organization that takes in abandoned and orphaned children, providing a home and education.  Here in Honduras, the NPH organization provides for over 500 children in at large ranch near La Venta and home in Tegucigalpa for severely handicapped children.   While many children at the ranch have aunts, uncles, or grandparents that come to visit them and can provide some Christmas gifts, some children at a ranch have no family to visit.  It is these children, whom we would like to provide for this Christmas. On the first floor of the administration office, a NPH Giving Tree will be set up. If you wish to participate, choose a paper tree that has a child’s information about his/her size for shoes and socks.  Purchase the new tennis shoes and socks and return them to Mrs. Agurcia’s Room (Room. 7) by Tuesday, December 11th, with the tree tag taped to it. Thank you for giving this Christmas!
