Week of January 22nd- 26th Letter Ii

Dear Parents,
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. 

Thank you Wendy  for our breakfast on Friday  The students really enjoyed it!

Lots of things re going on this week.
**We will begin working with letter Ii.

****Friday is Early Dismissal day also. Students will leave school at 11:45

This week we are going to be working with the letter Ii. The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is the following: Indian, ink, invitation, instruments, itch, igloo, iguana, insects, and internet. 

If you happen to have any item at home that begins with this letter, have your child bring it to school so it can be displayed on a special table. Thanks in advance!

Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

Iggy Iguana thinks ice is nice! We will find out how he uses his imagination to beat the heat!!

This is the story of one very smart little inchworm. As the story begins, he is about to be an addition to a robin's meal as the robin is hungry and the little inch was quite available. But unfortunately for the robin, this was one fast thinking little worm and he convinces the robin that he is a very useful creature. He offers to measure the robin's tail. Of course the robin is quite impressed (he found that his tail was five inches long, which pleased him greatly) so he takes the little worm to the other birds.

The sight words that we are going to introduce this week are: an, look, play, said, up. 

Please take 15 minutes every day to practice them at home with your child. It is very important for all of them to recognize all the sight words we have covered in class so far. Once they can recognize sight words it is going to be a lot easier for them to read books. The following link is a nice and fun game to practice these words.

We will introduce the concept of addition. We will be up to 10. The students are all very excited to start solving problems that involve adding.We will also discuss the concepts of before and after. We will also be counting by 5's and 10's up to 100. Please practice this skill at home with your child.

This week we are starting with a new theme. We will be talking about ANIMALS. We will focus on brainstorming different kinds of animals the kids know. We will focus on INSECTS and their characteristics.  If you happen to have any books, posters, toys about animals, we would appreciate it if you would let us borrow them.

A GIFT OF FRIENDSHIP FOR NPH

Celebrate the Gift of Friendship- Discovery School has developed a lasting friendship with many of the children at the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage.  We would like to extend an invitation for more members of the Discovery community to develop these friendships.  There are two ways to help: Join the Community Service Club.  Contact Mrs. Agurcia (cagurcia@discoveryschool.edu.hn) for more about this club. Donate a pair of tennis shoes or socks for to be given to the children at this year's Valentine's friendship party.  Hearts with the child's name and size are found on the bulletin board on the second floor of the secondary building.  Purchase the shoes or socks and return the item, unwrapped, with the heart tag attached, to Mrs. Agurcia's classroom (Secondary building, Room 7) by Thursday, February 1. “It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” ― Mother Teresa Celebrar el don de la amistad: Discovery School ha desarrollado una amistad duradera con muchos de los niños del orfanato Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos. Nos gustaría extender una invitación para que más miembros de la comunidad Discovery desarrollen estas amistades. Hay dos formas de ayudar: 1) Unirse al Club de Servicio Comunitario. Contactar a Ms. Christina Agurcia (cagurcia@discoveryschool.edu.hn) para más información sobre este club. 2) Donar un par de tenis o calcetines para ser entregados a los niños en la fiesta del Amor y la Amistad San Valentín de este año. Los corazones con el nombre y el tamaño de tenis del niño se encuentran en el boletín de anuncios en el segundo piso del edificio de secundaria. Compre los zapatos o calcetines y entregarlos sin envolver, con la etiqueta del corazón adjunta, a la clase de la Mrs. Agurcia (edificio secundario, salón # 7) antes del jueves 1 de febrero.
