Week of February 6-10 LeterDd

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Please send in a shoe box. We will be making Valentine Mailboxes. Our class will celebrate Valentines on Tuesday February 14th. Please send in a valentine for every student.

The Seniors  are selling roses, candy bags, and serenades. Order forms are going home today. If you are interested please fill out the form and send it back by Monday February 6th.

This week we are going to be working with the letter Dd. The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is:
dessert, dictionary, dominoes, dig, dance, daisy, dolphin, donkey, dice, doctor, drum, deer, doll, desk, and dinosaur.
If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, please send them in. We will send them home on Friday.

Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

Dozens of doughnuts have disappeared from Dave's Diner and Detective Dog is on the trail!

In a few simple lines of verse on each spread, fathers and mothers are ready to put their youngsters to bed. But in this book, the youngsters are a wide variety of dinosaurs. And how do dinosaurs say good night?

This delightful story shows not so much how a dinosaur goes to school, but what it does when it gets there. Does it fidget in class? Roar out of turn? Disrupt the class? No! It raises its hand, helps its classmates and tidies up its desk!

Just like kids, dinosaurs have a difficult time learning to behave at the table. However, with a little help from Mom and Dad, these young dinosaurs eat all before them with smiles and goodwill.

The sight words that we are going to be introducing this week are:  she, go, so, am, do
Please take 15 minutes every day to practice them at home with your child. It is very important for all of them to recognize all the sight words we have covered in class so far. Once they can recognize sight words, it is going to be a lot easier for them to read books. The following link is a nice and fun game to practice these words.

The children are having an extremely great time learning about all different kinds of animals. This week our main focus will be learning about REPTILES!!!We are going to be discussing their characteristics, how they are born, and which animal belong to this group. We are going to talk about DINOSAURS!!

In Math we will continue to work on addition up to 10, and the concepts before, between and after. We will also begin our measurement unit. We will measure objects with nonstandard units.
