Week of October 17th - 21st




October 14,2016

Dear Parents,
We hope you had a fantastic weekend. 

This week we will be working with the letter “Oo”. The vocabulary words for this letter are the following: octopus, ostrich, olive, onion, ox, office, orange, ornament, orchestra, omelet, octagon, oval, and ocean.

Please send in any items from home that begins with this letter. We will be discussing them in class. We will display them on a table and return them on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.


This Friday October 21st, we are having Parent –Teacher Conferences. You will be getting a note in your child´s folder stating the time that we have assigned for your conference. If you are unable to attend at the time that has been assigned to you please let us know and we will gladly reschedule.




Some of the stories that we will be reading are the following:
Olive the Octopus wants to be a juggler!



Late one winter night a little girl and her father go owling. The trees stand still as statues and the world is silent as a dream. Whoo-whoo-whoo, the father calls to the mysterious nighttime bird.












This week we are introducing five new sight words: as, with, his, they, and of. Please practice them with your child at home in a daily basis.
We will also continue identifying and making rhyming words.


 InMath we are going to be working with number 13 and we are going to introduce the concept of Ordinal Positions. We will play games using the words first, second, third, fourth, and fifth.






In Science, we are going to  be talking about My Body. This week we will focus on our internal organs. We will be talking about esophagus, stomach, heart, lungs, and brain.








UN Day Celebration is on Friday October 28th. This is a half day for the students. Early Childhood will be having centers on that day. Each class will be studying a country that belongs to the U.N. . Each class will rotate and learn about the different countries.
 Kindergarten will be studying Mexico. If you have any souvenirs, flags, costumes, songs etc. that you would like to share with our class please let me know.


Dress Up / Costume  Day is around the corner. We are going to be having a celebration on Monday, October 31st. On this day students will come to school dressed up as their favorite book, or movie character. 

We will also be trick or treating around school. Please send in one bag of candies, lollipops, chocolates or any small treats or toys. Please send in by Tuesday October 25th.

If someone would like to donate a pumpkin to our class we would really appreciate it. We will carve it and make a jack-o-lantern. We will also roast the pumpkin seeds.
