This week we
are going to be working with the letter Vv. The vocabulary that we are going to
be focusing on is the following: valentine, vulture, vest, volcano,
violet, violin, van, veterinarian, vacuum.
If you have any items at
home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be
discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return
them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.
Some of the stories that
we will be reading this week are:
We are going to
find out what happens when Victor Viper gives his pal Vera a valentine in this
very funny tale that teaches the letter V.
We will continue
working with the sight words: boy, from,
love, me, no. We are now up to 55 sight words!!! Please
practice them with your child at home!!!
It is important for
students to learn sight words in order to help them become fluent readers.
Remember that sight words are words students are able to read upon “sight”
without having to sound them out. They help facilitate reading comprehension
giving students a better opportunity to understand other words in context as
they read.
We are going to work with Word
Families. These are words that have the same kind of word ending and a
changeable first letter. For instance, the "at" word family would
include words like cat, pat, rat, that, hat, etc. Words in a family will always
rhyme; however, not all rhyming words belong to the same word family.
"Hair" and "care" both rhyme, but come from different families.
You may want to try the following link for an online game to play with your
child.
You may want to try the
following link to play with some word families and challenge your child with
them.
In Math, we are going to start
doing a mini unit about Honduran Money. We will be discussing each one of them
and its value. We will be sorting them out by its value. This is also a great
opportunity to practice our addition and subtraction skills. We would like to
request your help in sending one of each of the different coins with your
child to school (in case you have them). If you would like to send in more,
they will surely be welcome in our class!
The children are having an
extremely great time learning about all different kinds of animals. This week
our main focus will be learning about AMPHIBIANS!!! We will be discussing their
characteristics, and how they are born. We will be learning about the life
cycle of a frog!
To wrap up our unit on Animals,
we are hosting our marvelous KINDER ZOO on Thursday, March 3rd.
Parents are invited to join the presentations from 8:00 a.m. -9:00 a.m. Each child
will have around 3 minutes to talk about his/her animal. After snack we are
going to invite students and teachers from other grades.
The children were
assigned to an animal. Your child should create a 3D model about this animal
and have it ready to display it in our room. They should also present facts
about this animal and explain what they have learned about it. We will have a
big event on this day in which children from other grades, teachers, and
administrators will be invited. Your child can come dressed as a vet,
scientist, zoo keeper, or even the animal represented!!! Please be creative,
help your child come up with the ideas. This is a fun family project!! MARK
YOUR CALENDARS so you can join the fun!!!
