Dear Parents,
We hope you all have had a wonderful Semana Santa /
Easter break! We hope this break has helped us all re-charged our batteries and
enthusiastically begin the last portion of this school year.
This week we are going to be working with the letter Yy.
The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is the following: yo-yo, yarn, yellow, yak, yogurt, yawn,
yard, and yolk.
If you have any items at home that
begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be
discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return
them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.
Some of the stories that we will be reading this week
are:
A young yak thinks new foods are yucky until she
learns a yummy lesson. Kids will shout "Yippee" when we share this
engaging tale that teaches the letter Y.
Little blue and little yellow share wonderful
adventures. One day, they can't find one another. When they finally meet, they
are overjoyed. They hug until they become green. But where did little blue and
little yellow go? Are they lost?
One day, in her dark and dreary world, Annabelle finds
a box of colorful yarn. She knits a sweater for herself and her dog. At first the townspeople criticize her for
her colorful appearance – but it turns out they want sweaters too. Eventually Annabelle has created sweaters for
everyone and everything in town.
The five new sight words for this week are: jump, eat, cool, because, please.
Please practice these words at home with your child every day.
In our Phonemic Awareness we will be organizing words
in ABC order. Alphabetizing is an essential skill that will help students in
many day-to-day tasks both at home and at school.
In Math we are going to continue working with the
concepts of “greater than” and “less than.” We will add the concept of “equal
to.” We are also going to be working on
writing numbers 1-100
