This week we will
continue to work with word families. We will be focusing on the –at, -an, and –og
family. We will be singing songs, and playing different kinds of games to make
up words with these word families.
Children first
learn to read the Word Family and then they learn to blend consonants to the
beginning of each Word Family/Word Ending. By learning to read each Word
Family one at a time children learn to recognize various Word Family Endings
and they learn to brake unknown words into parts in order to decode unfamiliar
words in text.
This week we will begin
to study the parts of our body. We are going to be learning about some of our
internal body organs and their function such
as the heart, brain, lungs, and liver. Some of our vocabulary words will also include head, shoulders, knees, toes, eyes, ears, mouth, nose, elbow, legs, and arms.

Please practice these words daily at home with your children. One fun game that you may want to try at home is the following:
Concentration Game:
Sight word concentration cards can easily be made using index cards. Simply
write each word on two cards, shuffle and lay face down to play.
