Week 12 October 29th -November 2nd Letter R Halloween

October 26, 2018
Dear Parents,
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. 


This week we are going to study the letter Rr. 
The vocabulary that we will be focusing on will be: 
radio, rooster, rocket, robot, rose, rake, ribbon, rope, rug, ruler, raccoon, rice, raisins, restaurant, rainbow.

If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them and return them back on Friday.
The kids get excited to bring things from home.

This week we will need your help by sending in the following items:
  • 1 small box of raisins
  • 1 can of sprite or 7-up
  • 1 clear /transparent cup
  • 1 small box of Froot Loops
* Please send them in by Wednesday. *

Some of the stories we will be reading during this week are:

Chester Racoon and The Big Bad Bully 
When Mrs. Raccoon learns that there is a bully problem at school, she decides to investigate the situation. But after seeing the bully for herself, she shares a story about a forest that was full of smooth yellow stones, and how the animals living there changed a pointy stone they found into a smooth stone so that it wouldn't hurt any tender paws.

Tops and Bottoms 
Hare solves his family’s problems by tricking rich and lazy Bear in this funny, energetic version of an old slave story. With roots in American slave tales, Tops & Bottoms celebrates the trickster tradition of using one’s wits to overcome hardship.

The sight words we are going to be working on this week are: 
at, be, this, have see, four, five, six, green, black

Please take some time to practice daily these words with your child.
It is very important for them to recognize all the sight words.

In Phonemic Awareness, we will
begin working on Alliteration with the kids. 











And we will introduce and work with Ending Sounds

In Math we are going to work with number 15 and with the concepts of top, middle, bottom. The children will make sets, compose and decompose the number. Show representations of the number in different ways (tally marks, ten frame) with this number and sequence numbers from 0 to 15.

In Science, we will be conducting 2 experiments this week. One with Pumpkins and the other with raisins.

We will also be learning about rainbows.

Fundacion Abrigo: Is an organization which provides lodging for families from outside Tegucigalpa who bring their families/patients to the largest state medical facility, Hospital Escuela. Discovery School in solidarity with Fundacion Abrigo is asking for a donation of 1 GALON OF DISINFECTANT per family by Monday, October 31. Thank you very much! It is always far better to give than to receive!




The Seniors will have a bake sale on Tuesday, October 31st in order to raise funds for their community service. 



We will be having our Halloween lunch this Wednesday, please send in a morning snack for break time.

Week 11 October 22nd -26th UN Day



















 
Dear Parents,
Thank you all for coming in last Friday for conferences. I hope everyone had a great weekend.
UN Day Celebration is on Friday October 26th. This is a half day for the students. You are more than welcome to come and join us at 9:30. This is an early dismissal day for  students. School lets out at 11:45



This week we are going to be working with the letter Cc.

 The vocabulary words we are going to be focusing on are: cage, cucumber, camel, camera, candle, cap, carrots, clock, clown, cup, comb, corn, cafeteria, coins, and cousins.

Sight Words: These sight words were introduced last week and we will be working on them this week as well. Please practice these words at home with your child:
as, with,they his, of, four,five,six,green,black,orange

Room on the Broom(2001) is a bestselling children's picture book by author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler. It follows the misadventures of a witch, her cat and some helpful little animals.

 In Math, we are going to be working with number 14 and continue our study with Ordinal Numbers 
1st -10th.






 





Kindergarten A 







Will be study Japan. We will learn 
interesting facts about this beautiful country. We will listen to  songs, and learn some Japanese words. We will also do some Japanese crafts to enhance the students learning experience. If you have any items you care to share with our class we would be very grateful.




                   Kindergarten B  

will be studying Italy. We will be learning interesting facts about this European country. We will listen to  songs, and learn some Italian words. We will  also make some Italian crafts to enhance the students learning experience. If you have any items you care to share with our class we would be very grateful.





Dress Up / Costume  Day is around the corner. We are going to be having a celebration on Wednesday, October 31st. On this day students will come to school dressed up as their favorite book, or movie character. 





If you would like to show your support for Fundacion Abrigo please send in 1 gallon of disenfectant.

Week 10 October 15th -19th Letter Oo Student Led Conferences

Dear Parents,
We hope you had a fantastic weekend. 

This week we will be working with the letter “Oo”. The vocabulary words for this letter are the following: octopus, ostrich, olive, onion, ox, office, orange, ornament, orchestra, omelet, octagon, oval, and ocean.


Please send in any items from home that begins with this letter. We will be discussing them in class. We will display them on a table and return them on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.


This Friday October 19th, we are having Student Led Conferences. You will be getting a note in your child's folder stating the time that we have assigned for your conference. If you are unable to attend at the time that has been assigned to you please let us know and we will gladly reschedule.


Great News!! Raz Kids has stories in English Spanish and French. This is awesome!! Your child can Listen and Read The same and or different stories in 3 Languages.

Some of the stories that we will be reading are the following:
Olive the Octopus wants to be a juggler!

This week we are introducing five new sight words: as, with, his, they, and of. We are also introducing one, two, three, red, yellow ,and blue. Please practice them with your child at home in a daily basis. Review the past sight words as well.

We will continue Identifying and Making Rhyming Words and Identifying Beginning Sounds.


 In Math we are going to be working with number 13 and we are going to introduce the concept of Ordinal Positions. We will play games using the words first, second, third, fourth, and fifth.







In Science, the students will be investigating the concepts forces and motions. We will be doing a variety of activities.




UN Day Celebration is on Friday October 26th. This is a half day for the students. Parents are more than welcome to join us. This is an awesome experience !

Dress Up / Costume  Day is around the corner. We are going to be having a celebration on Wednesday, October 31st. Students come to school dressed up as their favorite book, or movie character. You may pack extra clothes in case your child wants to change into something more comfortable later on in the day.
Students will talk about their character to our class. 

At 8:15 Early Childhood will be having a parade. You are more than welcome to join us and see all the fantastic costumes

Our class mom Alejandra will be contacting you about our Costume Day Lunch and trick or treating.
