December 17th - December 18th

This week we will be doing many activities and centers related to Christmas. The children have been kept busy practicing for the Songfest and are doing a great job. They are all excited about it.

Please remember that Song Fest is tomorrow Tuesday, December 18th. The presentation will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. so please plan accordingly for traffic! Delicious food will be sold at school for an early dinner! They will be singing “Somewhere Out There” from “Fievel,” an American Tale. Students need to come wearing mouse ears, a tail and come dressed with pijamas. They also need to bring a small pillow for the show.

Our Christmas break will start on December 19th. Classes will resume on January 8th. We want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with joy and lots of rest!!!

Week of December 10th - December 14th, 2012

This week we are going to start working with the letter Nn. We will continue to work with addition and very soon we will be starting to work with subtraction. We will be introducing number lines to work with different math problems.

We are now sending homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The children are all excited about taking homework on these days. Please encourage them to read the words and assemble the sentence for their writing homework and to read the book as many times they want for their reading homework. They are all eager to know that they are starting to read and write on their own.

It has been a tradition at Discovery School for students to come together and contribute in assembling baskets of goods for our support personnel.  Kindergarten students have been asked to bring a 5-lb bag of rice. Please feel free to send any additional goodies that you want to share with our devoted staff, such as canned goods, instant soups, cookies and crackers, or anything else that does not require refrigeration. Please send these items no later than Friday, December 14th. Your participation will be deeply appreciated.

One of our moms have some  extra mouse ears for the girls and is willing to donate them to you if you still do not have them for the costumes. If you are interested, just let me know and I will let her know how many mouse ears are required.

A big THANK YOU goes to our Christmas Committee Mrs. Wendy Willemsen and Mrs. Barbara Reyes for coming in last Friday to decorate a Christmas Tree with the students. Each one of them got to do their own ornament to put up in the tree. They all had a blast and our Christmas Tree looks divine. You are more than welcome to stop by the classroom and see it for yourself.

The child in charge for Kinder Kafe this week is Raymond Sheenan.

Week of December 3rd - December 7th, 2012

It is so hard to believe that we are starting the month of December.
December is a chilly month. Make sure your children are coming to school wearing warm clothes. The clothes need to be properly labeled as children tend to take them off when they feel warm and can leave it behind in any of the classrooms. Please understand it is very difficult for us to keep track of where they leave their stuff behind.

This week we will continue working with the letter Mm since we still need to cover some concepts from our Kindergarten curriculum. We are going to be talking about Measurement. We will also continue to work with addition problems up to 10.

NOCHE BENEFICIOSA - The Seniors 2013 will be having a fund raising evening at Pollo Tropical on Thursday, December 6th from 3:00 p.m. - 9:00p.m. Funds will be used for their Social Work. We invite all the Discovery School families to join the Seniors and support their project.
